'Good Intentions' Excerpt Creates A Stir by Charles North

The Nashville Tennessean (where Bob is a religion reporter) is running a series of excerpts from Good Intentions. Last week, the paper printed an excerpt from our chapter on immigration, and boy are the natives hot!
You can read the excerpt and 25 comments (so far) here.
I think most of the objections to the Tennessean article are covered in the book, so have a look at the whole chapter if you are interested.
I will say this, though, to those who criticized Bob and me as liberals who want no checks on illegal immigration: My preference is for a careful and systematic overhaul of the immigration system that allows enough people in legally to meet employers' demand for workers at all skill levels. As I see it, the problem we have today is that our current immigration laws do not make sense in light of our country's demand for workers, and so employers and immigrants disregard the law just like was done with Prohibition.
